About
Charlotte was born in 1958 in London. She achieved a degree in ceramics from the Central School of Art & Design, London, before moving to Wiltshire and running her own business as a freelance ceramic restorer for twenty five years.
In 2013 she completed a master's degree in Multi-disciplinary Printmaking at UWE, Bristol, after which she and her husband moved to the Rame Peninsula in Cornwall, fulfilling a dream of living in an area that she had known and loved all her life. Since moving to Cornwall her work has been focussed on the marine and industrial heritage of the area - boatyards, docks, harbours, tin mines and viaducts. She is particularly excited by the juxtaposition of these manmade shapes, the remnants of past lives, set against the wild landscapes of Cornwall and Devon. Her artwork aspires to give an impression rather than the realistic portrayal of a place and she is motivated by trying to capture the essence of her reaction to her surroundings.
She chooses to work in a variety of disciplines, selecting the most appropriate method to suit the subject matter, but ultimately they are united by three common ingredients - use of colour, form and textural mark-making.
